I think, I should take a gap year so that I can take standardized tests and can also improve my extracurriculars. Will this impact my chances of getting accepted?
Generally speaking, it's best to apply while you're still in high school. If you want to take a gap year, you usually defer your acceptance by one year and then start the following year (rather than just waiting one year to apply). It's also not too late to take standardized tests!
It is okay to delay applying by one year, though, so long as you can build a full schedule of impressive things to do during your gap year.

I have planned many things for the gap year and I also want to look inside me and find to do what I'll love to do. As of today my greatest Extracurricular is that I'm a state gold medalist in 4100 metres relay. I'm also a guitarist. Are these extracurriculars enough for me to get into top US Universities like MIT, Stanford, Harvard and etc.
