What should I do as a spike in biomedical sciences, computer science, and global health?
Answered

Hello! I'm a freshman and I'm worried that I'm not doing enough.

I'm co-starting a nonprofit that teaches kids computer science in our area (our foundation is getting approved in Austin right now). We're also starting a Climate Action Technology Club at school too. It's about climate and environmental awareness and using computer science to build climate tech applications/projects. We're also planning on attending climate tech competitions/conferences.

I'm also planning to start a National Science Bowl Team in my junior year. But what I'm most happy to start is an online magazine and podcast about interviewing young innovators/accomplished students with another friend. We're planning on interviewing family/friends first, but I have a dream list of people to interview.

I'm doing Model UN in my sophomore year too as the in-person conference was canceled this year. Hopefully I can do well in this club.

Another thing I want to do is biomedical sciences research and implement artificial intelligence. I hope to attend the Science & Engineering Fair Houston comp and my dream is going to ISEF (fingers crossed!).

My mom is a healthcare professional and she has a doctor friend that I can shadow. My older sister did this in her junior year.

I definitely want to volunteer more and get more leadership on the student council. I also want to continue being on the Robotics Team.

Are these extracurriculars enough for an IVY or Top 20 school?

You are on track with your extracurriculars in terms of achievement and involvement. I would recommend honing in on ECs in one or two of your interests instead of all three to make your spike clearer. I I also think that you should put your foot down on a clear career direction and tailor your ECs towards it.

Beyond that, volunteering is a good idea to demonstrate more tangible impact on your local or state communities. Adding a hobby that is quirky, unique, and casual to your EC list to show more personality also would not hurt. Hope this helps!
