Would this be a good idea for an interest club, and how can I improve on it?

Hello!

I am a junior in high school, I'm currently too busy to start any clubs of my own but I hope to jump at the opportunity when I get it. I am very passionate about fitness and health, though I am not as involved in it currently as I used to be. I used to wake up at 7:30 before virtual school started at 9:45 as a sophomore just to get in my workout 5 times a week and worked out 5-6 times a week total. I ate and continue to eat relatively healthy. Difference is now I don't work out at home anymore, I'm in a full-year course that replaces health + gym at school called mind and body connections, where you learn how to do bodyweight strength/mobility and heavier lifting like with barbells/kettlebells in the school weight room. I have this class 3-4 times a week, so I consider that my mini workout. Because a lot of slackers take that class and skip on the workouts to horse around, the teacher has taken a liking to me as a student who actually cares about improving my lifts.

On to my idea. I want to start a club that discusses various aspects of physical health (ie. stretching, mobility, diet, rest). I was thinking of having both classroom meetings for these discussions/lessons and meetings in the weight room for hands-on workout experiences, where members can learn how to properly lift. I don't want it to be a lecture-based club, I want for it to be more interactive. Furthermore, I want to have fun activities, like possibly a contest where people come up with a protein-rich recipe, make it, and bring it in.

I have friends I can ask to join the club and I want to ask my mind and body teacher to be the club advisor and supervisor if we use the weight room.

To sum up, I'm interested in starting this club to start holding myself accountable for all aspects of fitness again and to slap that initiative onto my resume, counterbalancing other weaknesses.

I would appreciate any feedback, especially from fellow fitness enthusiasts! Also, still looking for a club name...

Honestly if I went to your school, I would join your club. It sounds amazing, especially since you're so passionate about it. I honestly think it's perfect as is. A tip from a fellow club president: make sure to organise your lessons and make them available on google classroom/platform to aid your club members(in addition to any resources). Good Luck! P.S: I think your club should be called FIT: Fitness Immersion Training

Hi @kat.in.the.shat! I LOVE your idea! I think creating a club based on your interests is a great idea, especially since you will be able to talk about it with genuine passion on college app essays. The ideas you've come up with for events sound amazing and I definitely think your club will be a success. A lot of high school students don't have that sort of exposure to exercise, so I think your club will be a great opportunity for you to share your passion with others and to help students understand the importance of the connection between their mind and body.
