I'm applying to Thrive Scholars, which is a program that helps first-gen, low-income, and/or BIPOC individuals with the process of applying to and attending college. I made it past the preliminary rounds where I had to submit my test scores, transcript, and some essays, and now I just have to verify the information I put down and participate in an interview with an alumni of the program. Past or prospective scholars (or anyone at all, really), how should I prepare for the interview? I have researched the program and know quite a few things about their mission, but I don't know if there is something else I should do. It's kind of like an interview with the alumni of a college, so any tips that pertain to that will likely pertain to this.
It's great that you researched their mission. Something I would also suggest is preparing to answer what I would call hypothetical situations. Some programs are also interested in your stance and how you would help people in your situation. A lot of programs involving BIPOC want to gather information about those in the situations to help better themselves. So I personally would come up with a few answers and or solutions if they ask. You most likely will also need to talk about how your current situation has impacted your learning. I don't know your situation but let's say that you are lost or confused about college since you are a first-gen, or you are concerned about the cost because you are low-income, they want to hear about it. But what you have done so far sounds great! I'm sure you'll get into the program.
I would recommend reading this CollegeVine article about preparing for college interviews. Many of the tips in it will be applicable to your Thrive Scholars interview. One more tip I have is to make sure that you send a thank you email after your interview. Hope this helps!
