I don’t know what I’m doing

As a Junior, I obviously haven’t applied to any colleges yet so I don’t know much about how this works. I have multiple colleges I’m considering applying to, and I have good chances in them. If I get accepted into multiple, do I just pick one and essentially tell the others “Sorry going to a different one?”

Yeah, basically. Typically when you get accepted to a college, they tell you the steps to take in the acceptance letter to show that you chose their school. Which is typically putting a deposit down. You have until May 1st to make that decision.(May 1st is decision day for most colleges). You don't have to inform individual colleges that you aren't going to their schools.

So yes, you can only pick one college to go to, but there are multiple rounds. Early decision basically means you have to go to that college, so only do it if it's for one you want more than the others. Early application lets you know if you got in early but you don't have to go.

If you can't afford the ED college based on the tuition you have to pay or there's other factors that mean you can't go, you don't ACTUALLY have to attend, right?

@kat.in.the.shat If you ask their financial aid office for more money they may be accommodating! They won’t make you go if you can’t afford it, but they might be able to work out your financial situation. Just email admissions!

ok thank you! Reason why I'm asking is my family's income is high enough, definitely over 200k, that I've been told (from multiple sources who've had experience) that I won't get any financial aid... Multiple colleges I'm looking at are around 50k tuition and my parents won't go higher than 40k, which is reasonable. I don't know how I'll find 10k/year in the event I get accepted to one of these colleges. Hopefully I'll get some scholarships and they will be willing to work with me.

@kat.in.the.shat you can also apply for scholarships too, there are a lot of school specific ones, community based ones from organizations where you live, or even national ones through big companies. Definitely talk with your parents and admissions if you do get into a school you really love but is on the higher end of your budget, and you may be able to work something out. Good luck!
