Medical Internship Abroad vs Shadowing / interning at home
Answered

There’s a public Health internship I’m really interested that’s supposed to be in Mexico this summer. I’m going into 12th grade. I’d get approximately 50 hours of medical interning experience but the program is 3000

Should I do this or should I just find some free virtual shadowing options? I heard that “paying” to get intern experience doesn’t really look good in general. Something about ‘voluntourism’ or something like that

Also if you guys know any good psychiatry shadowing things online I’m all ears

I think that the internship abroad could look good if it has a service focus and you will make an impact for the greater good. If not, then free shadowing would be better. This CollegeVine blog post has some advice on how you can find shadowing opportunities. Hope this helps!
