Admissions start date

When is everyone starting college admissions? I’m afraid I’m going to start too late. Also, when do applications even open for people to start?

I’d recommend starting over the summer! Common App opens for submissions on August 1, so you can’t apply to a school for the Fall 2023 cycle until August 1.

But, you can make a Common App account anytime, and see the supplements each college requires, if any, for an application. If you’re applying to a lot of schools or schools that have a lot of supplements, starting over the summer gives you more time to create better responses and have time to edit. Especially if you plan on applying ED somewhere, it’s best to start in the summer because ED applications are almost all due Nov 1.

Seniors who have left college applications to do in September are almost always stressed out, since they’re getting used to new teachers and possibly AP courses, as well as the fun of being a senior, and it takes away time from making a well rounded application.

Take the summer to write out your essays. You can also ask a teacher you have now if they’d be able to take a look at your writing in September when you get back to school, so you can just submit and be done. You can also trade essays (with a trusted friend) or with family or even with a college counselor.

Good luck!

Hello Lily,

Don't stress, just talk to your counselors. Or, you can look it up on your college website.

Good Luck,

Shaila
