Hey, I'm going to apply to colleges for class 2028 and I'm an international student. People always say that "It doesn't matter how many exams you take, the thing matters is in what conditions you have taken." and it sometimes make sense. For instance my school doesn't provide neither SAT nor AP/IB but I've managed to take an AP this year and people say that it's great. But I wonder are there other things that I should do except taking exams and some impresive extra curriculars?
Are you an international student?
Here are a few things you should do to make your application more competitive:
- Make sure that you write compelling essays. Many international applicants overlook the power of the essay, so writing well will make you stand out.
- Ask your teachers early if they would write a letter of recommendation for you. If they would, give them a personal facts sheet that reminds them of your extracurriculars, personal qualities, and academic interests.
- Take an English proficiency test if you're applying from a country where English is not the primary language. Many colleges now accept the Duolingo proficiency test, which you can conveniently do online.
Hope this helps!
