I am a 12th grade student and have a few small extra-curriculars.
Colleges generally place more importance on academics than extracurriculars, but it's not a binary situation. Colleges want to accept students who are not likely to fail their classes, so few applicants get in who do not meet their minimum academic standards (e.g. a 3.0 UWGPA). That said, those applicants with academics below the cutoffs have to be exceptional in another aspect of their application to make up for it, and this can include extracurriculars. An example would be top recruited athletes without great grades.
One thing to keep in mind is that it's quite common for applicants to have strong academics and lackluster extracurriculars. I recommend taking on more activities, since this could give you a significant boost in the admissions process. Hope this helps!
