I started my junior year a week ago. I really want to be a pilot, but I'm unsure the route I want to take. My two options are essentially Air Force Academy or going to a random college for my degree and then going to flight school. I don't know my UW GPA but I know its around 3.8-4.0. I haven't taken the SAT yet but I have a PSAT of 1200. My extracurriculars are fairly strong, especially the fact that I'm a varsity football player and varsity soccer captain (small school). I know the AFA has a low acceptance rate, but is it worth trying? I have all APs, Honors, and college courses. Should I have the AFA as a reach, UGA as a hard target, and Middle Georgia as a safety? I've heard that Middle Georgia offers pilot training, and I would only need to get instructing hours. I know what I want to do as a career, I just have no clue how to get there. While in college I'd like to continue playing football.
First of all Air force Academy if you join the Air Force they might pay for it, you do have to be 21 to become a commercial airline pilot with airlines such as Delta, United and such but according to research and friends I have found out airlines will pay for you to earn the license you need to work for them and help with all the steps, so if you truly want to become a pilot going to school isn’t actually all that necessary. Though if you do it might be worth noting that you should have a back up degree in mind. Your probably not 17 yet but are you working on or do you currently hold any sort of pilot licenses?
