Will changing my legal name complicate sending high school transcripts or other information to colleges?
Answered

I'm transgender, and I'm hoping to get my name changed before senior year. I just want to be prepared if there's any extra paperwork or things I might need to do to send my information from my entire high school career to colleges.

It will not complicate things too much as long as you are able to include your new name in your Common App. You should fill out your application materials with this name, and then you can make a note about your name change in the Additional Information section. It is unlikely that colleges will ask you for documentation proving your name change, but if they do, an ID with your new name and a certified court order should be the only documents you will need. Hope this helps!
