Hi, from my basic understanding of course rigor, it's harder classes or something along those lines.
In my school, we don't have AP or IB classes or advanced classes of the sort. What we do have is 6 compulsory and 4 electives. I assume that the electives are what would affect the course rigor.
COMPULSORY SUBJECTS
MATH
ENGLISH
ECONOMICS
CIVIC EDUCATION
DATA PROCESSING
BIOLOGY
ELECTIVES
1.Geography/Technical Drawing(Architectural drawing)/Agricultural Studies/French
2.Physics/Christian Religious Knowledge(CRK)/Accounting
3.Chemistry/French/Government
4.Further Mathematics(Essentially Calculus)/Literature/Fine Arts.
I decided to pick Physics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing and Further Mathematics as my electives. So I wonder with the options available to me whether I've decided on the most rigorous courses, and if I misunderstood the concept of Course Rigor please let me know.
Hi there! Academic course rigor is basically the academic or intellectual challenge of multiple classes. For example, a schedule with just your compulsory classes and study halls is less rigorous than a schedule with the compulsory classes and electives for the other choices. Based on what you have chosen (with the classes and options available to you) it looks like your schedule is pretty rigorous. Also, you chose electives that are going to help you towards a career in math/science. You didn't choose study halls and art classes to take the "easy way out." Colleges are going to see that you tried your hardest to make a rigorous schedule.
Overall, course rigour is the WHOLE schedule/high school career, not just one or two classes. Your schedule seems to be rigorous in my opinion!
Hope this helps and good luck in junior year!
