I might be attending the Washington Journalism and Media Conference next summer, and I was wondering how it would look. It's a paid program, and I would spend the week networking, watching presentations from professional journalists, and participating in "simulation activities." I am likely going to declare my major as journalism on my applications.
An opportunity you paid to participate in is still an opportunity! You can include this on you EC list, just as you would any other summer program or internship. If you are able to provide information on the selectivity of the program, that could be helpful to include in the description as well.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
From the website, "National Youth Correspondents are nominated by a teacher, counselor, or alumni of WJMC, or they are invited by George Mason University to represent their school." I received an invitation. Also, "Approximately 300 National Youth Correspondents will be selected to represent their schools and states at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference. The invitations go to a select number of students who exhibit academic excellence and who express an interest in journalism."
