Hi, I am currently a high school junior who is thinking of majoring in Marine Biology or something STEM related. I am currently in AP Bio, and AP Lang, and am in mainly honors classes (besides history). I have about a 3.7 GPA, am ranked 32 out of 119 in my class, and got 1120 on my sophomore PSAT. I think my extracurriculars are okay, I have been in the marching band playing trumpet for six years (currently brass captain), I'm on the varsity debate team, a part of my school's NHS, and have had a part-time job for almost a year. I want to add more extracurriculars that would stand out to colleges in terms of marine biology, I do live somewhat near the coast and have some aquariums near me that I could volunteer at but I wanted to see if there was anything more competitive or impressive to colleges. I also want to start looking into colleges that have great research opportunities and hands-on experiences in Marine Bio. Any feedback would be much appreciated!!!
Hi @Julianna!
Based on where you live, here are some universities with good marine biology programs:
Western coast: UOregon, UCSB, UCLA, UCSC
Northeast coast: Syracuse, Northeastern, Boston University, Duke, Brown
South: Florida International University, Auburn, Samford, UMiami, UWashington
One thing you can do is search for marine biology summer programs available to high school students at nearby universities.
Hope this helps!

Uwashington is in Seattle thats SW but all good schools for marine biology. UNC Wilmington also offers a highly advanced program in Marine Biology.
