IB Lang-and-Lit Mature Content

Hi, I am an IB student and currently taking lang-and-lit courses (Chinese and English). I feel like IB requires us to handle content with some academic and emotional maturity, and I'm not fully ready for that so sometimes I can't really focus on the language in a piece of work because the content is too mature for me. Has anyone had similar experiences or advice?

As a fellow IB junior, I've also noticed this. There are definitely more mature themes in IB readings than other classes. I'm guessing it's because IB is college content based and they want us to be prepared for those kinds of things.

My advice is to focus as much as possible on the parts of the content that are not too much for you. Write about what you're more familiar with. Sometimes though, you're going to have to just deal with it.

You could also ask your teacher about the work being assigned. IB teachers have flexibility with the works they choose to assign. You could tell them you are not comfortable with the material and ask them to change the material. They likely won't listen, either because they already have the course planned out or just because they aren't very accommodating, but it's worth a shot.

Good luck :)
