I have an F in Calc AB right now, does this look bad?
Answered

This is the longest I have had an F on my transcript, with mid-terms coming up I am worried I won't get it up enough. I am hoping to get my grade up to at least a C by the end of the year. With college coming up, does this look really bad?

Hi @kat_s!

The F is not your final grade; you have time to get it up. Although a C is better than an F, it still won't look good on your application if you're planning to be a STEM major.

Don't worry, there are ways to compensate for a low grade. The most obvious one is to retake the class or take the Calc AB exam. This shows that you're making efforts to improve and will reduce the negative impact of the low grade on your application. Another way is to give them a valid explanation for getting a low grade (ONLY IF you have one, DON'T make stuff up). Family issues/mental health are some possible valid reasons.

Hope this helps!
