Does being a legacy actually help admission chances?
Answered

Hey! I'm looking at St. Catherine University up in Minnesota, and my mom went there too. My GPA (3.5) is just a little below their average (3.6), but it's where I want to go. They offer scholarships for legacies, so I think they might take it into consideration. Would my mom's history with them help my chances?

Try looking up the school’s Common Data Set. It should show you how much they consider legacy and where it ranks in what they consider in applications.

I hope this helps!

Hi @solanawinters !1

Yes, it does help being a legacy, legacies have more chances of getting in that a normal applicant.

I don't know much about that school, but do some research and see if they do like legacies. Most of the time, private schools like ivies like legacies, and help you during admissions. But, if it's a really small school or a public school, it's likely it won't matter much.
