I'm a sophomore signed up for my school's IB diploma program. Is it really as hard as people say it is? Do you think its worth it?
Hi @TharunkumarAR I'm currently an IB junior. I can personally attest to the fact that the classes are pretty tough. However, they also can be fun, especially since IB teachers have flexibility in the work they assign.
According to college teachers and graduated IB students, IB really does help prep you for college. In my current IB HL Bio class we are learning things that most college freshman bio classes don't learn.
In terms of the value of the IB diploma, it's at least equivalent to taking several AP courses. In recent years, the IB diploma has become very popular with college admissions. Obtaining a high score gives about a 20% boost in the admissions process. Hope this helps! :)
Got it, thanks for the detailed explanation! I think I will go ahead and take it for the reasons you listed, and adding onto that, the class sizes for IB are really small in my school which I think is just an added benefit.
Good luck!
Hi @TharunkumarAR I am also currently an IB junior and I personally really like it. I sadly think I will drop out next year because of my IB HOTA HL class. I am terrible at history and sadly at my school IB HOTA and IB English HL are paired. Although I am thinking about dropping I would definitely recommend taking IB because there is a lot of room for free thought and you are taught at such a high level, it is truly amazing. I love my english class because we get to openly discuss and it is so nice because most of the IB classes are fairly small. IB, although more uncommon is starting to become more valued and I can attest it definitely prepares you for college. Most colleges are not as aware of IB but it is very beneficial. I would suggest taking the classes but also talking to people who take them now and get their opinion about the teacher and workload.
Ah I see. Yeah I've heard a lot of things--not all good--about HOTA lol. The pros that you've listed truly do seem like IB is worth it. I'll give it a go. Thank you so much for your response.
