Extracurriculars?
Answered

I'm currently a junior, and I was wondering if I had enough extracurriculars to apply to UCs and a few privates.

- Attended a summer camp at UC Berkeley in sophomore year (awarded 50 volunteer hours)

- started band in 5th grade, and will do 4 years of marching band in highschool (will run for section leader next year) - 8 years of band in total

- 4 years of fbla (placed at section in freshmen year, section + state and went to nationals sophomore year, section so far in junior year) and I'm in cabinet

- will try to get a job in the summer or senior year

- will have 9 ap classes taken by the end of senior year

- class rank is 60/529

- will take the sat

- a lot of my time also goes to my family

any suggestion is appreciated!

While you are doing some great extracurriculars so far, it would be highly beneficial for you to add more your activities list. Since you can add up to 10 activities to your Common App list, you should try to fill in as many slots as you can with Tier 1-3 extracurriculars. Tier 4 activities do not help you much, so only one or two are needed.

Think about all the activities you have done in high school - you may be able to expand your activities list just by reflecting over the past three years. Self-directed extracurriculars, annual events, and short-term commitments can all be added.

Hope this helps!
