Hello,
I'm currently a sophomore and will be junior in the next academic school year. In college, I would like to major in political science/pre-law studies, but I feel like I need to add more to my extracurriculars to strengthen my passion for law and writing. As of right now, I've been doing public forum debate for several years, I started an environmental club (planning to start a podcast), I'm starting a mock trial team next year, and I'm also planning to do start a law journal (website) over the summer. I'm taking a law class over the summer too. However, I think my interests (writing, law, environment) are slightly scattered, and I especially want to showcase more interest in the legal field (i.e. law internships, shadowing a lawyer), but pre-college law summer programs are really expensive and internships at law firms are incredibly hard to find as a sophomore. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?
I think that mock trial, a law journal, and a law class are great! I know a lot of people at my school got experience by working as a receptionist or file clerk in their field of interest. By building relationships with people in the field, they had a lot more opportunities to shadow and eventually intern. It is also a great networking opportunity! Definitely look into job openings at law firms that are local to you, and see if a high school diploma is needed for any of them.
Hello! I think you could try and bring together your passions in an activity that involves all three? I think writing and law easily fit together, and sustainability and the environment can be related to law as well. You could write for your law journal about cases that have environmental implications, like the recent Supreme Court case 21-454 Sackett v. EPA. I wish you the best of luck with finding internships/job shadowing in the legal field! As a fellow rising Junior, I know just how hard it is to try and find ECs related to law. I suggest you try and reach out to small, local law firms via email or phone call to ask if you can shadow or meet with a lawyer/attorney or paralegal to get a greater understanding of the field. Explain that you're in High School but you want to have a greater understanding of what its like to actually work in the legal field, before you pursue it in University. Be persistent, and I wish you the best!
girl you are doing so good !! (no suggestions from me, just wanted to say you're killing it!!)
