How to apply from outside the US?

I live outside the US and am interested in applying to leading American universities. From the information I've come across so far on the Internet, it seems that things like AP classes, clubs and leadership roles are significant for the application, but since I live in another country, I don't really have the opportunity to meet the American standards in these contexts. My school doesn't have clubs, in my state there are no AP classes, and my school doesn't offer anything but standard classes for each age group. How critical is all of this?

While extracurricular activities, AP classes, clubs, and leadership roles can be valuable for American university applications, it's essential to remember that each university considers applicants holistically. They understand that educational systems vary worldwide, and they take international applicants' contexts into account.

American universities look for qualities such as academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and a well-rounded perspective in applicants. Even if your school doesn't offer AP classes or clubs, you can still demonstrate these qualities in other ways:

Focus on academic excellence: Strive to achieve the highest possible grades in your standard classes and excel in subjects you're passionate about.

Pursue independent projects: Undertake self-directed research, online courses, or personal projects that align with your interests and showcase your dedication to learning.

Volunteer and community involvement: Engage in community service or volunteer activities to demonstrate your commitment to making a positive impact.

Showcase your culture and background: Embrace and highlight your unique cultural experiences, which can bring diversity and depth to your application.

Obtain strong recommendation letters: Request letters of recommendation from teachers or counselors who can speak to your academic abilities and character.

Excel in standardized tests: Perform well on standardized exams such as the SAT or ACT to demonstrate your academic readiness. You can take the digital SAT.

Write a compelling essay: Use your personal statement to share your story, aspirations, and how you can contribute to the university's community.

American universities appreciate international applicants for the diverse perspectives they bring to campus. Emphasize your strengths, accomplishments, and dedication to learning, regardless of whether you have access to specific programs at your school. Your unique background and achievements can make you a competitive applicant. Remember to thoroughly research each university's application requirements and deadlines to tailor your application accordingly.

Right now I'm focusing on my academics (I take some college courses after school hours), and I have no ides how to find time to engage in other activities. What do you think I'm supposed to do? Should I spend less time on academics?

Taking college courses on top of school is an excellent idea and grades are the most important thing in applications. But it would be beneficial if you could do some activities like volunteering because you can show your leadership and your commitment to your community. I would pick one or two activities on top of school because it's always quality over quantity. And if you can't find something nearby, try online; for example maybe you could tutor someone.
