Helpful extra-curricular for Statistics & Data Sciences major

Hello members,

Looking for some advice on what type of extra curricular will look good on the resume for applying for Data Sciences major to a good college (e.g. UT Austin). I have been learning computer programming (Java, HTML/CSS, JS) for a few hours although I do not have any hackathon experience. I have done a Data Science certification by IBM on Coursera on my own.

Should I look at learning programming languages like Python / R etc.? Or focus on SQL? Or find paid courses on DS from well known colleges?

Any suggestions please?
