In India, we do not have APs as part of our school curriculum. So if I want to take APs separately, should I be taking it in my subjects or should I give APs for the subjects which I don't have
Colleges are looking for three things:
1. How many and which AP classes have you taken?
2. What's your score, (Most crucial aspect)
3. What's the major you intend to apply for your undergraduate study? For example, it is good to show that you have advanced knowledge in Math/Science if you plan to do Engineering.
1. Weigh your pros and cons. If you are good at a particular subject, it would be better to take that AP exam to increase your chances of a better score.
2. Other considerations could be you don't want to study that subject in college and would like to get college credit - saving college course fees. (AP credits - most universities have listed the details on their website.) Example: AP US History, AP Psychology, AP Government (half credit)- if your choice of major is Engineering or Science field. You need to check your intended college website to see which course they allow credit and what's the minimum required score for that. You can save money as the AP exam is $120, but the College Course fee could be above $1500.
Ultimately, it comes down to which universities you are applying to and what's your study ethics to get a higher score. Try not to take the abrupt/random course exam for fun. It's not worth it. Good read.
I wish you all the best.
thank you so much! it was really helpful
