Low GPA This semester

Hi!

Unfortunately, I got a 3.3 GPA my first semester of junior year. In previous years, my GPA has never dropped below a 3.83 and that has always been my cumulative GPA. I'm taking the most rigorous classes that are offered to me. I'm currently taking 4 AP's (AP Lang, Bio, Pre-calc, APUSH) and 1 dual enrollment class at a community college (in total, there will be three at the end of the year but I've only taken 2 by this point). I also founded a club at my school and I'm a treasurer of another one.

I was wondering if it is actually over for me and if I really won't get into a good college. My dream school has always been Columbia, and I don't even know if I can get into a state school anymore. I'm getting kicked out of NHS as well, and I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice on what to do to make my application stronger or if it's still possible to get into a good school.

I recommend you keep taking DE classes. This will help you raise the GPA a little. Stay active in ECs; but remember, QUALITY OVER QUANTITY! Choose ECs you are passionate about and this will shine in your application! SAT/ACT scores can also improve your application greatly! If you need any tips, lmk. I took the paper SAT and now prepping for the DSAT. (I am planning on making a post about the DSAT and tips. If you would like me to tag your name in, please lmk!)

Also, start considering other options. You don't need to beat yourself up just be practically prepared. IF the colleges you want don't accept you, transferring is a great option that is unfortunately often downplayed. You can start at a different university or community college for a semester or 2 and then transfer into the university you really want. Reason? Transfer students have lower requirements than first-year students. I cannot highlight that enough! It is easier to get in after proving you can handle college!

So don't despair and just keep doing your very best! No one can expect any more than that and you certainly shouldn't.

LMK if you would like to see my DSAT post!

How are you planning on taking the DSAT? Could you please tag me in the post or give me tips? Thank you so much!!

Do not take it too hard on yourself. If you have a B in those classes it's fine. However if you are struggling switch the classes you find the most difficult because it is counterproductive. You will hurt yourself more.

It is very possible to get into a good school. Your resume is very impressive. I hope you get into Columbia that is a top 5 on my list.

Alright, thank you so much! It is a bit late for me to switch out, so I think I'll just try to do my best now. Thank you for the advice!!
