I'm currently a sophomore, my weighted GPA is 3.4 and I am taking AP Psychology and 2 college classes. I am taking at least 11 college classes while I'm in high school and I plan on taking 2-3 more APs. I want to go to School of Mines and I was wondering if I should take Algebra 2 this summer and then take pre-calc and then AP calc my senior year. I need to get my GPA up a lot this year so I'm not too sure what to do over the next few years. I am also thinking about doing more concurrent enrollment at my local college to get credit and raise my GPA.
I am not familiar with Mines so I used Ivy assistant:
Taking Algebra 2 over the summer, followed by Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus, is a good strategy to demonstrate a strong foundation in math, which is important for a school like Mines that emphasizes engineering and applied sciences.
In addition to focusing on academics, encourage your friend to participate in extracurricular activities related to their intended major or interests, as this will help to create a well-rounded application.
Regarding taking more concurrent enrollment courses at their local college, it can be a good option to gain college credits and potentially raise their GPA. However, it's crucial to maintain a balance between challenging oneself academically and not becoming overwhelmed."
So taking A2 in the summer would be a good idea, but please make sure you are not pushing yourself beyond what you can handle. Also, I am a DE student online with a community college. It is a good way to raise your GPA and collect college credits. You can enroll in an associates program (work with your hs counselor) and take DE classes instead of regular hs courses.
This may or may not be a good option for you.
Hope this helps. LMK if you have any questions.
