I'm a junior getting ready for college applications this fall. When should I start asking for recommendation letters?
If you are applying this fall, I recommend asking when the senior year begins OR if you will be in contact with that person over the summer (like a coach or employer) than ask in August/July. True, you can always hold onto them like @ari.kihnke said, but like your application, if you wait, there's more "evidence" to include. So don't do it now b/c your Letter of Rec writer may encounter something they want to include about you in the next few months. Hope that makes sense.
You should definitely ask as soon as possible. Teachers get swarmed with letter recommendations from seniors and the sooner you ask, the more they remember about you and the more likely you are to be able to get the letter from teacher you want.
it is never too soon to start asking for recommendation letters, especially because you can hold onto them until you need them. just make sure they have enough time to write a good letter, especially if the person is busy. i am going for early application (august-ish) and i already have most of mine. hope this helps!
