Hi peeps! I have been struggling with a health issue that has negatively impacts my grades and athleticism since winter of Freshman year. This has greatly affected my performance in my club volleyball team, and I am worried that colleges won't be interested since I am not currently on the school team. We are still trying to figure it out, but I am very active in extracurriculars, and I am getting A's and B's again. I want to get a good degree and go to a prestigious university, and I am willing to put in the work for it.
How should I approach College applications?
Hi! I'm so sorry that you've been going through some struggles. It's great that you have a positive perspective and are willing to work for your goals despite your setbacks. If you can, find about two extracurriculars that you can/want to dedicate the most time to and put your best effort into (i.e. joining Speech/Debate club and spending time competing, joining Student Government and becoming an officer/active leader, etc). Also, set focus to keeping the current and future grades up while taking the hardest courses you can so colleges can see your growth since 9th grade and you can highlight in your essay about the struggles you experienced and you can show colleges your resiliency and growth as a person and your ambition, which are qualities colleges value. Also the previous commenter mentioned, you can also use this experience to write about for essays that may help you gain connections to prestigious universities that you want to go to. Good luck! I hope this helps you. :)
I really don't know much about applications, but I have a little bit of knowledge on scholarship essays. I would tell you to do is to write a emotional essay to win scholarships. Maybe like talk about the struggles you went through from your health issues. Best of luck with applications.
As a warning from experience, emotional essays are not always a good thing, especially for college applications. Watch this video to understand topics to avoid and how to write a great essay: youtube.com/watch?v=lAtFF47Ce4k
