Hi, I took the August SAT and got a 1370(700 math, 670 r/w). I was wondering if anyone had any advice to boost my score, I will retake it in November. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
Also, what do you think I could get on the PSAT/NMSQT given that SAT score?
Hey there!
My highest RW score is 730 currently, but all of my scores have been 700+. The first test I took was the paper SAT back in October and I got the 730. I had simply used Khan Academy, but I personally have very strong grammar skills (I edited my older sisters’ writing) and high reading comprehension. Read, read, read. Write down words you don’t know and look them up. I am a book worm :) and reading helped me more than anything else. Know the grammar rules.
For the digital SAT, I prepared using Strategic Test Prep’s English and math pdf workbooks. They may not be offering the English one right now, but they do have a self-paced course as well which likely includes the book. I highly recommend their YT videos, too. The workbook was great because it collected questions into the categories and provided strategies. Daily practice made a huge difference in my timing! You have to move a lot faster on the DSAT.
As far as the PSAT/NMSQT, I got a 1360 last year and just received a certificate as a Commended Student! Although this isn’t as big as a semi-finalist or finalist, it will boost my application and be very helpful in proving my abilities. I do live in PA- your state does make a difference because if it’s less populated, you have a higher chance for NMSQT- so take my experience with a grain of salt because your state may have a different level of competition and need a higher score to qualify as a Commended Student or be fine with a lower score.
Hope this helps and please lmk if you have any specific questions! You got this 😊
Hi!
From someone who got a 1540 (800 math/740 reading), I'm telling you that taking practice test and using SAT practice questions are the best way to go. One of your best friends is gonna be the SAT question bank (available online) that has SO MANY PRACTICE QUESTIONS for you to take! You don't have to go through the whole thing, but practice is the ONLY way you are going to improve, and the questions there are almost never-ending. If you want to specifically target a category, these are the specialized books I used:
SAT PandaMath
Erica Meltzer Grammar
Erica Meltzer Reading
Hope this helped, and let me know if you have any other questions!!
GOOD LUCK, YOU GOT THIS!
