I would say I come from a low income family, I really enjoy creating art. I would love to major in Graphic Design, one of the main things that I'm having trouble with is finding scholarships that are legit.
Hi there!
Some great websites to use are Going Merry, Bold.org, Scholarships.com. Those are my favorites because I can find smaller niche scholarships that are less competitive. The bigger the scholarship, the more competitive. I have used Fastweb, Niche, Collegexpress, and other websites like that, but they have less options and more competition. I have also checked out RaiseMe which has a system of "microscholarships." Basically, for accomplishments like getting an A in a class, some schools will offer you a certain amount of money annually. I didn't use it because the university I plan to attend is not on RaiseMe, and I have heard you should hold the microscholarship offer lightly because there's no gurantee.
Tips: Apply to smaller scholarships and let them add up. Use scholarships as a chance to improve your essay writing skills. Eventually, you will have a storehouse of great essays addressing tons of common prompts. Just keep applying. Shoot for less competitive, less known scholarships. Write, write, write tons of essays. I have a document where I put links for scholarships I need to work on essays for each week (I am a senior and there's tons of oppportunities).
If you come from a low-income family, you have more options like FASFA and need-based scholarships. I don't qualify, so my suggestions are based on my personal experiences. Hope this helps!
A sport you can get a scholarship for is Lacrosse. If you're willing to commit they give out up to 15 scholarships a year. You can earn scholarships even if you join you're senior year.
There is apps like Bold.Org,Niche,or Scholarship Owl. With Bold,They provide different type of scholarships as well as a card for everytime you complete their tasks to apply for scholarships, you money is put on the card. The rules are:

For Niche, Niche, as College Prowler, provided rankings, report cards (with attributed grades) and reviews of colleges in the US. During its rebranding process, Niche expanded its coverage to include K-12 schools as well as neighborhoods under their "places to live" category. In addition to its comprehensive profiles, Niche also lists scholarships from the company and third parties. Niche functions as a two-sided platform with free access for prospective students and over 15,000 school clients who pay for services to help them market to these users, including placing advertising and promotional material on the site. Niche also offers access to its data for a cost to other parties such as real estate companies, which has raised concerns that this linkage might reinforce neighborhood disparities based on ethnicity and income.

I understand how challenging it can be to find legitimate scholarships, especially when you're passionate about something like graphic design. Here are some scholarships that might be a good fit for you:
Clarvit Design Scholarship: This scholarship supports creativity and targets bright students with outstanding academic accomplishments. Applications are done online in mid-April each year.
Al Luna Memorial Design Scholarship: Funded by the Luna Family, this scholarship supports students who share Al Luna's talent in the creative arts. It's open to high school students and underrepresented minority students.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: This prestigious award recognizes talented students in grades 7-12 for their creative and academic achievements in visual arts, writing, and photography.
The National YoungArts Foundation: Provides scholarships and mentorship to young artists in various disciplines, including visual arts, music, and theater.
The Ruth and Harold Chenven Foundation Scholarship: Offers scholarships to students pursuing degrees in visual arts, with a focus on those who demonstrate financial need.
The Catherine (Kay) Williams Memorial Arts Scholarship: Supports female students with artistic talent and financial need.
The Palette & Purpose Scholarship: Specifically targets BIPOC students interested in visual, studio, or performing arts.
Gustave Blache III Art Scholarships for Aspiring Artists: Amount: $25,000. Deadline: January 6, 2025
Microsoft Imagine Cup: Amount: $100,000
Despite my school's lack of information and support for students regarding these opportunities, I have found several scholarships that could help.
