Paying for College

FAFSA vs. CSS?
Answered

Hello everyone!

I'm a current Junior entering college fall 2022 and starting to explore options for paying. I don't qualify for hardly any need based aid due to my family situation, so is it worth it to fill out the FAFSA or the CSS? If so, which one should I do, both?

I went to a fafsa zoom a while back and they recommend everyone applies, even if you don't think you will get anything. As for the CSS I recently learned most liberal art schools require you to apply to it along with the FAFSA. So if you are applying to any liberal art schools I would get both done early in the process to have it done with.

It is definitely worth it to fill out both if you can, it takes a few hours but you could qualify for aid at one or more schools. The FAFSA is free to fill out, so definitely take the time to complete that. CSS requires you pay per school ($25 for the first school, $16 for each additional school), so that's a more personal decision based on whether you're willing to pay for that. If you don't have a strong opinion about paying, I recommend you do both. Also be sure to check which schools require the CSS, because not all schools accept it.

TLDR; FAFSA yes, CSS maybe. Good luck!

To be honest fafsa is for the american citizens and css profile is for international students however in many umiversities css profile is not accepted / required . So look for more details and do some research
