Paying for College

Fafsa and CSS
Answered

If I have not completed the Fafsa or CSS profile, am I at risk of not having as losing financial aid money that I would have got if I applied earlier. Should I consider doing work-study or other things if I am a low income students who doesn’t have money to pay for college?

Please do the FAFSA right away. Everyone can get something from the FAFSA even if its Pell grants, you will get something. But you need to do it now. Also the CSS profile can be very helpful especially at smaller schools but remember not all schools take it. You can google "what colleges use the CSS profile" to find out which ones do. You will be surprised that small, private colleges have endowments and scholarships that can make your tuition very affordable. They just want to see the CSS profile to determine your family's need. I hope you find the funds for your college. We are all trying very hard. I am glad we have communities like this for support.

I would recommend getting those done as soon as possible. However, there isn't necessarily a deadline for FAFSA. The cut off is basically when the money runs out but there's still time for you to apply right now. I would consider a work-study just to help because even with the FAFSA and your CSS profile you may still need some extra. I am also a low income student and I'm in a similar situation but I have faith that things will work out. Obviously looking for scholarships would also be a good use of your time right now. You shouldn't give up!
