Paying for College

How does applying as an independent on the FAFSA affect the amount of aid you will receive?

I was fortunate or unfortunate, whichever you think, enough to have to apply as an independent on my FAFSA and I am not entirely sure how that will affect the amount of aid I will receive. Does anyone know or have any idea?

Hi @Jeci! If you didn't put down your parents' financial information at all, you may be eligible for more aid because it will only be dependent on your financial information. Check out the "Independent Students" column on the table on this website to see how much aid you could potentially receive: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/subsidized-unsubsidized

Hope that helps!
