Paying for College

Grants
Answered

Can someone explain Grants to me, please? And how would I get grants? I'm a low-income student with a 4.09 GPA. I want to go to a 4-year college; I want to major in pre-med/Health Science. I'm also a senior graduating early in October 2022. I didn't score very well on the SAT; I got an 800/1600

Hello! Grants are money provided to students by the college or university to help students pay for their tuition. Grants are typically giving on a need-basis, unlike scholarships. You don't need to have a certain GPA or SAT/ACT score to qualify for grants. Many private colleges and universities offer larger grants because of funding from alumni associations. Those tuition numbers look large, but 9 times out of 10 you will get some type of grant. I majored in pre-OT and received grants from many colleges I applied to. No need to worry about test scores, they are mostly just for scholarships! Hope this helps a bit :)

It depends on a variety of factors but income is definitely a significant factor. Try a free EFC calculator online to find out. If it is 0, you'll get the most grant money.
