Hello! Rising junior here, I recently applied to attend multiple virtual pre-college courses for a university. I was accepted, and I applied for a scholarship from the university to help with tuition costs. So far, I've been offered a 70% scholarship for the tuition cost for 1 class, and am awaiting a response for two more.
However-- for that one course, the cost of attendance will be about $450, which I and my family cannot afford, let alone $1350 to take all three. I was hoping to be offered a 100% scholarship for at least 1 of the courses, but obviously funding is limited. I'd be alright with only taking 1-2 of the courses if it means Georgetown is able to give me a 100% scholarship for those 1-2 classes, but I don't know how their scholarship process works at all.
I know in the case of financial aid admissions packages, you can appeal for greater help, but can you do that with a pre-college program? Additionally, if so, how, and what information could I provide to Georgetown to help my case?
Generally, it does not hurt to explain your situation to the college, since the worst thing they can do is tell you "no". Send them an email or letter kindly explaining your circumstances and why you cannot pay for the program (e.G. low income, job loss, medical debt). You can also add that you'd be willing to compromise, as you stated in your question.
End your letter by asking about other scholarship or financial aid opportunities that are popular among their pre college students.
Generally it is harder or not even possible to appeal scholarships since unlike financial aid, they are often merit or achievement based, while financial aid is need based. So if they offer you a scholarship all you can really do is ask.
