Paying for College

Application Fee Waivers

Unfortunately, my school's district has updated the maximum income of your household to qualify for free and reduced lunch. My sister (graduated high school in 2014) and I have been on reduced lunch our entire lives. Being on free and reduced lunch gave her the opportunity to apply to college without the build up of application fees. I, on the other hand, was kicked from it Junior year. I even opted out of the AP exams due to the sudden influx of costs from the exam after no longer receiving a reduced price. I'm financially not in the place to pay fee after fee for applications, especially after the passing of my father.

Does anyone know different ways I can receive fee waivers for the schools I'm interested in? We meet USDA Income eligibly to qualify for the SAT and ACT fee waivers, but I'm not sure if I have to test again to be able to use that as a way to receive fee waivers.

(p.s. I took the ACT Junior year but my school covered the cost for everyone. Not sure if that counts or if I actually would have to receive the ACT/SAT fee waiver from my counselor and take the tests again to qualify)

You could email the college, or if you went for a in person visit they may give you a fee waiver. I would recommend if there’s any college fairs at your school and there’s a college you are interested in is there, you can ask for a an application fee waiver. Hope this helped!

If you visit in person, from my experience, ice received waivers for the fees in the information packets I have gotten.
