Paying for College

Aid for those whose parents will not help?

I know for many scholarships including FAFSA you need parent information or for your parents to make under a certain amount. My parents make a large enough amount that I do not qualify however I will be paying for it on my own. Any advice?

Yeah I have the exact same problem actually! It’s putting me in an… interesting position haha.

What I’ve been doing so far is focusing on applying for scholarships as much as I possibly can, and looking at colleges with a good merit-based financial aid offer. Lots of colleges offer compensation for those who make less income (these are called need-based scholarships) but these are based on the parent income and therefore do not help when the child is paying for college themselves. But, colleges that offer a good merit-based scholarship (based on GPA, etc) will cover a huge amount of your tuition if you’ve performed well in school!

As tedious as this is, I’ve found that pretty much the best way to get around this is just to apply for scholarships left and right. :)
