Does NMSQT cause scholarship displacement?
Answered

I just received my PSAT score and it was a 1360. I qualify for NMSQT but I am wondering, would receiving a National Merit Scholarship affect my college merit scholarship badly? I have heard of scholarship displacement being a huge problem. The college I am attending offers merit scholarships up to 27,000; would a NMS just be subtracted from the full amount? Anyone have experience with this? Should I decline a NMS if offered?

Heads up on the national merit qualification, check your index score and your state's past cutoffs. You might technically qualify for entry but if your index isn't high enough it means nothing. That being said, I see no reason as to why colleges would limit your scholarships if you already have some. I know someone who attends a local state school that pays him ~20k a year to be there meaning he probably stacked a crazy number of scholarships. I think you will be fine tbh.
