Paying for College

How Do College Scholarships Work?
Answered

Hello! I am a Senior in a financially weaker family. So, scholarships are EVERYTHING. Most of the better scholarships are offered by the school itself, but I don't understand how the system works.

- Do I have to be accepted to the school before applying for their scholarships? Or can I apply for their scholarships before and choose that school later if I still want them?

- Is it possible to borrow or use books and resources from students who already completed my course instead of paying for my own? Or a scholarship that covers all books and fees?

Thanks for reading! I appreciate your time.

In a similar situation! The systems vary by colleges. Sometimes, you can apply for scholarships before acceptance that have a separate application process from admission and require enrollment to be eligible. Other times, you can only apply to scholarships from that school after enrolling. However, I've seen that some schools automatically put you in for scholarships with your regular admission application.

About the resources, yes! You can typically borrow/buy from students at a discount, or you may have a scholarship(s) that covers those cost.

My advice is to do your research on what the schools you're applying to offers, look at their eligibility criteria, and of course, apply to as many scholarships as possible!
