I wanted to know what are good majors for undergrad to study anesthesiology?
If you want to study anesthesiology, there's quite a long process involved. You'd need either a DO or an MD degree which means you have to graduate from med school first. Depending on your USMLE score you may get matched to an anesthesiology residency and will be able to pursue a medical career in that direction.
Now, to get into med school is a whole other ball game but you should know that med schools don't really care what you major in during your undergrad, you just need to meet all the prerequisites which include biology, chemistry, a bit of physics, math, sociology and psychology. Majors that help with meeting these prerequisites range from biochemistry to even neuroscience. Most counsellors suggest majoring in any major that will help you increase your GPA as that is incredibly important to get into med school.
I agree with @minniesw - med schools don't care as much about your major as your grades and extracurricular medical commitments, so I'd suggest majoring in whatever interests you most! I'm planning on going into medicine as well (hopefully pediatrics), and I'm thinking of majoring in neuroscience (maybe) and minoring in theatre or creative writing. Med schools want to see that you're well-rounded too, so if you're going to be burnt out doing anatomy for 4yrs undergrad and then med school for another 4, follow your passions first. In terms of medical-related majors, to give you a head start on medicine-related things, biology is a super common one, but there are lots of sub-specifics too. Consider what high school sciences you liked most, and maybe you could turn one of those into your major. Good luck! :)
Bio, Chem, Anatomy, anything science or health related!!
