How many schools should I actually apply to.

I am a current sophomore going through my mid highschool college crisis and I need to know how many collages I should be thinking about. Also, considering I am a state athlete and looking for a full-ride?

Hello! Although there is no "perfect" number of colleges to apply to, you should consider creating a list of reach, target, and safety schools. This will help you select the institutions you are most interested in and ensure you have a broad range of colleges to choose from. The majority of people apply to roughly 5-15 schools, but everyone has different goals.

The number of colleges you should apply to is highly dependent on your personal situation and priorities. But, because you are a sophomore, you have plenty of time to carefully consider each of these factors.

I am also a sophmore going through the college crisis so you're not alone! Some advice that has been helpful to me is to make a list of things that you know you HAVE to have in your college. For example, if you know you want to go to school in a certain state. Once you have done this, I would sign up for a lot of college websites. It's kind of overwhelming, but I am signed up with collegevine, bold.org, niche, scholarship360, and I think there are a couple of others. These websites can help guide you in your search. One thing that I have heard a lot is not to limit yourself. Maybe try applying to a school that's kind of "out there" just to see what happens. Once you have found schools you like, you should make a list of schools that you are very likely to get into (safety schools), the schools you want to go to and it's pretty realistic (target schools), and schools that you like but you know there's not the best chance of getting into (reach schools). And then make sure you apply to at least one of each, but in reality, you can apply to as many as you want. It would also be helpful to talk to your school counselor or college coordinator because they are great at helping students choose colleges. I wish you luck!

Out of 13 decisions that came out, I got into 5 colleges. On paper I should have gotten into all 13..... 15 to go.
