I’m a current high school junior. My GPA isn’t great, a 3.2, but i got a 30 on the ACT and have a projected 1350 on the SAT. I want to go into elementary education and I’m doing a dual enrollment program next year where I will be student teaching. A lot of the schools i’ve been looking into are too expensive for my family. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Good job on your ACT! I do not think that your GPA is that bad, plus it can always be improved. Have you been looking at more well-known prestigious schools? That may be the reason why most of them seem to be too expensive for you and your family. I suggest that you start applying for scholarships now too!
Here are some colleges that I found that are relatively cheap (after aid) and provide a good education, especially for education majors: CUNY Queens College, Florida State University, Montclair State University, University of Washington, Heritage University, California State University, University of South Florida.
Staying in-state makes it much easier to pay for college since you won't have to pay out-of-state tuition. I could help you further if I knew what state you were in to find some great colleges there.
I completely agree, and it never hurts to apply for some scholarships. I know that there are many scholarships towards students pursuing education, especially elementary ed. You still should consider what @sinala said, but you may also want to look into that. I know you can find great scholarships on unigo.com, scholarshipowl.com, fastweb.com, and niche.com if you're looking for a place to start.
P.S. You might be discouraged by your GPA (even though it's not bad!) but I think with your great ACT scores you shouldn't be worried about not being good enough for the scholarship. It never ever hurts to apply!
