Is volunteering really helps in application process and if yes what kind of them?
Having an extracurricular like volunteering makes you a more competitive candidate, as most other people applying will likely have volunteered. If the school you're looking at isn't super selective though, then you can probably get in without volunteering.
People generally recommend that extracurriculars be stem or related to your major. Check around for places you can volunteer (my local area has a science center people can volunteer at)! Tutoring is also a good activity!
Thanks very much for response, but what do you mean by stem extracurriculars?
STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) extracurriculars are activities that focus on those particular subjects! Think robotics club, coding clubs, academic team, making your own app, or STEM summer camps! People generally prefer stem because they'll likely major in one and colleges like stem since you're learning something while volunteering (also even if you major in something non-stem related, you'll probably have to take classes involving science or math at least)
definitely! it makes you stand out among other candidates that are applying and makes your resume even better. you can volunteer at local shelters, hospitals, food drives, etc, or even do (summer) internships.
Thanks for response, but what about volunteering in different international organizations?
Volunteering should act as a base for your extracurricular activities. It is often seen as an attribute found in prospective students and all colleges love to see lots of hours. For example, more than half of all Harvard acceptees have more than 200+ volunteering hours
As with all extracurricular activities though, make sure to display continued effort and interest! Good Luck
