Hi! I am a high school junior currently applying for summer programs and I am most interested in the School of New York Times summer program. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the admissions process and what they like to see in the essays. Thank you!
When it comes to your essays, two things will help you stand out - diversity and excellent creative writing skills. Definitely use your essays to highlight any aspect of your identity that makes you stand out. You could even talk about philosophical ideas you have or one of your unique hobbies. Regardless of what you choose to talk about, make sure to write your essay with creative, expressive narrative. The style of these Common App essays serves as good inspiration.
Another important part of your SNYT application is the writing sample you submit. Though it is optional, it will greatly help you to submit it. You will want your sample to be an example of your best writing, and ideally, have content that no one else would write about.
Hope this helps!
