I was recently accepted to Washington University of St. Louis, University of Washington (Seattle), Northeastern University, Boston University, and Syracuse University.
I am a 2D artist and was accepted into the design schools at each college (except UW, where you have to apply again as a sophomore in order to declare a major in Design).
I was wondering if anyone had information on the reputation of the respective design programs at each school. While I definitely value the quality of each program, I am more concerned with the reputation of each school, especially within the creative community as it will play a factor in my job search once I graduate. I also value the emphasis on career preparation provided by each school (i.e. alumni networks, access to internships, professional practice within the classroom) for the same reason.
For a little more background: I don't see myself becoming a "traditional" gallery artist and am more interested in working with design in a commercial sense (i.e. becoming a creative director, owning a design firm, or working in creative advertising). This is mainly why I applied to non-art schools so that I could more easily build a network with students from other majors like business, engineering, film, etc.
Feel free to drop a vote below and/or comment with any insightful information on these schools!!
(Unfortunately I can only list 4 schools, so please comment for Syracuse)
The two most prestigious schools here are WashU and Boston, but it looks like WashU might be the slightly stronger program. I would consider more factors than just the program, though, when making a final decision (location, cost, quality of student life, etc).
