I'm a high school senior and I still haven't finalized a list of where to apply. If anyone has any suggestions of where to apply I'd love to hear them!!
GPA: 3.85 UW, 4.3 W
ACT: 34 composite
Extracurriculars: Marching Band, Concert Band, Church Youth stuff, NHS, photography, writing, art
Awards: Academic lettering, College Board Rural or Small town scholar
Essays: I'm a pretty good writer so I'm sure they'll be pretty good
Female
Looking at colleges that:
Western US, but east coast isn't a dealbreaker
Have Engineering programs (mechanical or biomedical)
big or medium schools with variety of majors, clubs, activities, etc.
Preferably offer decent merit scholarships
What I've got so far:
University of Arizona: Accepted
Arizona State University: Application in progress
Brigham Young University: Application hasn't opened yet
Northern Arizona University(?): Haven't started yet
Everything feels like either too much of a reach, or basically the same as local state schools but just more expensive. Feels like there's no middle ground! Suggestions of target/reach places to look into would be appreciated.
Hey, I'm a North Carolina native so I primarily know East Coast schools but NCA&T has a good engineering program if you're interested in attending an HBCU or Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest University, and CalTech. I don't know a lot about the engineering field but I hope this was helpful.
thanks!
Hey there @AJ24!
Maybe apply to some UCs? They're definitely reaches, but your profile is pretty strong, so I'd suggest applying to a few. If you have a couple safety/target schools that you'd be happy at, then I don't really think you need to apply to too many others.
I did do a quick search on CollegeVine for targets on the West Coast, and here's what I found:
- Cal Poly
- LMU
- Reed College
- UCSD
- University of Montana Western
These were using my stats, so I would recommend going under the 'schools' tab and filtering by state and admissions difficulty so you can schools tailored to you.
Thanks!
Suggest looking at U of Washington, Texas A&M, Purdue, Oklahoma & NC State.
