Hi there, I've been developing a colleges list to apply to next cycle (junior here!) and I want to make sure I'm choosing schools that I actually have a shot of getting in to, but that aren't too much of a safety school. I know that stats can be used to see if an applicant would applying to a safety, match, or reach, but I also know that holistic admissions processes doesn't make admissions this straightforward. How should I go about determining this? Thanks!
Hey @Umaasa! One thing that I'm doing to help with exactly what you're going through is making a college spreadsheet. I have a huge list of many colleges that I've gotten emails from, that I want to get into and/or that could be a good school for me and even some schools that I just know of and wanted to see my chances. On the spreadsheet, I'm putting all of the college info that is important to me and goes into my decision in the future. One thing for me is definitely tuition and sports ( I swim). College admissions can be very misleading sometimes so it's really helpful to have all of the information laid out on just one sheet. I found that the stats on here are pretty good, realistically, if you have all of the information filled out. For example, my HS doesn't offer AP,AICE, or IB classes and so the website lowers my chances because of that. Realistically I probably have a higher chance, the website just compares against other juniors in my state, and with my similar qualifications. I don't know if that answered your question, but lmk if you need any more help!
