Hi all! I'm a rising Junior from Maryland and I have a 4.7 Weighted, 3.15 Unweighted GPA. I'm taking 13 total AP's, and 18 Honors/GT classes. My extracurriculars are above average, with several leadership positions. I haven't taken the SAT, but I got a 1300 on the PSAT. However, my GPA (unweighted) concerns me. Does anyone have tips to raise it, or as per the title of this post, any good engineering schools I have a shot at? My dream school is MIT, but I don't know too many other schools that are attainable for me.
I take a lot of AP classes, and at my school they are weighted very heavily, so a 3.15 with 3-5 AP classes becomes 4.7. Kids with all A's in those classes can have north of 5.0 weighted GPA.
While your unweighted GPA might be a bit lower than you'd like, your weighted GPA and rigorous course load demonstrate your commitment to your education. Here are a few tips to help raise your unweighted GPA:
Focus on Core Classes: Concentrate on improving your grades in core classes like math, science, English, and history. These are typically weighted more heavily in GPA calculations.
Study Smarter: Develop effective study habits that work best for you. This might include creating a study schedule, using active learning techniques, and seeking help from teachers or tutors when needed.
Participate Actively: Engage actively in class discussions, complete assignments on time, and ask questions when you don't understand something. Participation and effort can sometimes positively influence your grades.
Seek Extra Help: Don't hesitate to ask for extra help from your teachers or attend tutoring sessions if you're struggling with any subjects.
Stay Organized: Keep track of assignments, deadlines, and exams to avoid falling behind. Good organizational skills can help you manage your workload more effectively.
I am not too familiar with colleges good for you however I hope the GPA tips help! :)

I have to ask out of curiosity, how did your GPA become a 3.15 uw and a 4.7 weighted?
