Recommendations | Biomedical Engineering

So, I've got an interest in majoring in biomedical Engineering. I am becoming a senior in highschool but I've got a few cons that make college hard to get into. What are some recommendations on boosting things or some colleges?

Pros:

SAT: 1250

Extracurricular: marching band for 3 years 1 leadership. 1 club with leadership. Key club for 3 years amounting over 30 hrs

AP: World History, Calc AB scores not available yet planning on Stats and Biology

Planning on Calc BC through nearby college

Cons:

GPA: 3.0

Recommend working on that SAT score OR if you are into science, the ACT may be a wise choice (tho the science is mainly reading comprehension and data analysis, I have heard). 1250 is a good sign that you could get a better score with more intentional studying. At least take a free practice ACT and use online calculators to compare your SAT/ACT.

My honest evaluation is that your profile seems above average, but not by a huge amount. Don't mean that negatively...you can definitely go places, but I would definitely apply to many safety schools...too many students only apply to reaches and barely get in anywhere. Steer clear of Ivies based on your EC's and courseload.

Write a stellar essay! Begin writing lots of essays RIGHT NOW. There is no time to waste- your essay can make or break your acceptance and most students don't take it seriously enough. Get feedback on your essays through friends, family members, mentors, the peer editing system here on Collegevine. Watch videos from places like SuperTutorTV, where they give some guidance on topics to avoid or amplify.

Another thing you can do is to increase your involvement in the ECs you have rn. Biggest piece of advice for ECs: do what you love! Get involved in what you are passionate about and dive in DEEP. Enjoy it :)

Letters of rec matter, too. Choose teachers, coaches, or mentors that you have a meaningful relationship with. You want them to be able to say more than simply affirm you're a great student, but a person who can testify to the amazingly unique qualities you have!

Hope this is helpful. I am so sorry if this sounds rude or negative. My goal is to help my peers and I hope you found this helpful. Please lmk if you have any questions.
