Safety and Reach Schools?

So, I already have a list of good schools I want to go to.

1) NYU

2) UCLA

3) Harvard

4) Yale

5) Stanford

(But of course, any Ivy or really just a good school would be ideal)

I want to major in Psychology (maybe educational theater, but it seems like only a few schools offer it), and minor in Creative Writing. What are some safe schools I could apply for, as well as some targets?

I have a 4.0 and can’t take AP’s until junior year at my school, so I’ve taken 7 honors classes (as many as is possible besides language) between freshman and sophomore year. I have a plethora of extracurriculars, including theater and writing. I’d like a school with either a good psych, writing/english, or (hopefully!) educational theater program.

Sorry if I was confusing!! It’s late, haha, and I’m just going down a college rabbit hole… thanks for the help!

Safety Schools

These schools have strong programs in your areas of interest and are generally less competitive in terms of admissions:

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities: Known for its strong psychology program and a variety of creative writing courses.

University of Iowa: Offers a renowned creative writing program and solid psychology courses.

University of Oregon: Has good programs in both psychology and creative writing, and offers a supportive campus environment.

Indiana University Bloomington: Offers strong programs in psychology and creative writing, and has a vibrant campus life.

Target Schools

These schools are competitive but within reach given your strong academic and extracurricular profile:

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor: Known for its excellent psychology program and strong creative writing courses.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: Offers strong programs in psychology and creative writing, and has a vibrant campus community.

Boston University: Has strong programs in psychology and creative writing, and offers opportunities in educational theater.

University of Southern California (USC): Known for its strong psychology program and offers a minor in creative writing.

But most importantly use Niche's College Quiz to find schools that match what you want, and then select "safety" or "target" to help you! I think you can also put in filters on collegevine's "schools" tab and select only softies/targets.

Good luck!!!!!

As a sophomore, looking for colleges can be So stressful! I'd be happy to send you my list for you to consider adding some to yours. Living in California, UCLA is def my dream school (duh, who doesn't want to live in LA for at least 4 years?) but I'm still looking into it. Don't worry too much, lots of schools have been reaching out to me, especially as I update/add to my profile. I would say to keep up your profile and reach out to different schools too, you need safety schools as well.
