School Recommendations?

Hi there, I'm currently a freshman and I really wanted to get a head start on colleges. I have a rough idea of where I want to go. I'm not really set on major however I am interested in most STEM/STEAM subjects. I do want to go to a school in-state (CA) and is relatively close to a bigger city- I'm fine with suburban areas as well. On a 4.0 GPA scale I'm at 3.89, and on a 5.0 GPA scale I'm at 4.5 (mostly A's with a singular B.) I'm currently in two honors classes, and I'm currently duel-enrolled in my local 2-year college in a program offered at my high school. I'm a cross country & track and field athlete, who also swims and cycles for recreation, but I do triathlons/miscellaneous races when possible. I do hope that I can compete in triathlons with a collegiate team once I graduate high school. Any recommendations?

I'm really happy I'll be your first comment on your first post. Welcome to Niche and I trust your application will go smoothly when the time comes. Honestly, when I read your profile, the first thing that came to my mind was that this guy is in love with Caltech. But since you don't want to stay in the state, I mean that is a bummer tbh. It's a personal decision and I'm very sure you have a valid reason. I looked at your profile again and I'm thinking of Georgia Tech as a good match. You can check a bit more on it. You can also consider Amherst College. Amherst built a new science center. They are investing a lot towards their STEM department so you might want to check that out as well. I hope this is enough you need.

Hi there! Thanks for being my first comment on my first post. I did mention above that I wanted to do my best to find a place in-state. I was looking at what Caltech offers and do think that it could fit me quite well however I did look at their athletics/recreation portfolio and saw that they do have most of the sports I indicated I would love to compete at the collegiate level, however I did notice they don't have a triathlon team, because of triathlons my current list is comprised of schools with decent academics and triathlon teams like UCSB, UCLA, and Stanford.

Hey!

I think you should check out Bard College at Simon's Rock. They offer hands on STEM classes and also, they have early admission for 10th and 11th graders. Check it out.

I want to go into STEM too! A couple of colleges I've looked at are University of Chicago, John's Hopkin's, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Embry-Riddle. I have no idea about sports at these colleges (I'm not looking to play once in college), I just know they all have particularly good physics, astrophysics, or biophysics programs. Winona State University is the only in the nation that offers a degree in composite materials engineering if you'd enjoy that. I'm from WI so I know these are all super far from you, but these are reasonable matches for myself that I've found. Good luck n hope this helps a bit :)

Thanks for the reply! I did look at some of those schools for the STEM/STEAM aspect however it is quite a long while out of state and, most of them don't have a club or something similar for me to continue honing my triathlon skills. However, I definitely will take into consideration the schools you listed.
